How to use long tail keywords to improve your paid search campaigns by Hope Flammer
Long Tail keywords are 3 and 4 word phrases which are very specific to whatever
you’re selling.
The good news is that they’re relatively cheap. The bad news is that you need a lot
of them. And that takes time.
Smart retailers search out long tail words that are relevant to their category. For a
company like VoiceQuilt.com, phrases like “Mahogany keepsake box” and “80th
birthday gift ideas” have bid prices that are generally low and conversion rates that
are high.
But a phrase like “80th birthday gift ideas” has only 700 searches a month. Even
with a high conversion rate, you need a lot of words to achieve significant sales
volume.
Google Analytics has a report that shows visits and conversion rates for specific
phrases that consumers have typed in. Once you’ve identified these words, you can
go to sites like AdWord Analyzer (www.AdWordAnalyzer.com), Keywords Analyzer
(www.KeywordsAnalyzer.com) or www.LexFN.com to develop related words.
